Vet Rate › Emergency vets
Emergency care is offered at 723 places we list: 47 dedicated emergency clinics, open to any pet, and 676 practices that run their own out-of-hours service for their registered patients. Most other practices send nights and weekends to one of the dedicated clinics, so your own vet’s phone line is the surest way to the right one. An out-of-hours consultation in the UK costs £55 to £347, typically £155 for a dog and £160 for a cat, at the 428 practices that publish it. Find the nearest by postcode, or choose your area below.
Find the nearest emergency vetIf your pet needs help now: phone your own vet first. Even when the practice is closed, its phone line or answerphone gives the number to call. Then phone the emergency clinic before you set off, so they can get ready.
If your pet has collapsed, is struggling to breathe, is bleeding heavily, may have eaten something poisonous or is in a lot of pain, go now.
Every practice must arrange care for its patients out of hours. Of the 2478 practices whose websites say how, 676 run their own service and 1802 use a separate provider: most often Vets Now (827 practices), CVS Vets 24/7 (62 practices), Wanstead Veterinary Hospital (18 practices), Stone Lion Veterinary Hospital (14 practices), Valley Veterinary Hospital (12 practices).
Out-of-hours care costs more than a daytime appointment, and treatment, tests and overnight stays are on top. Ask for a written estimate: under the CMA’s new rules, practices must give one for treatment likely to cost £500 or more.
